Adolescents should be monitored for at least six months in addition to counseling after the onset of menstruation (period).
'After the onset of the teen's period, she needs to be monitored for at least six months in addition to her counseling. Because it will help girls to cope with the fear of menstruation or menstrual problems at the beginning of life, 'said Shiuli Chowdhury, Professor of Adolescent Friendly Health Care Center at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Salma Begum, an employee of a non-governmental organization in Dhaka, said that the onset of menstruation is frightening to many girls, whose remnants have to carry many girls for a long time.
"We didn't get a chance to talk about it or get advice from anyone," he said. Because, even a few days ago, it was difficult to talk about menstruation at home and abroad. I knew what my mother said in the beginning. There was no hygiene concept. But I have suffered myself. Again I saw some of my friends endure the excruciating pain. But no one cared. ' Excessive bleeding during menstruation is painful for many girls. Some people experience severe pain in the lower abdomen for a longer period than usual.
What to do with the girl and her family
Doctor Shiuli Chowdhury said, firstly counseling, secondly eating an adequate amount of balanced and nutritious food, and thirdly resting - these are the situations that need to be ensured.
"A lot of bleeding can lead to anemia," he said. If you don't take action on time, other complications may occur later. So at this time, you have to eat more nutritious food especially iron-rich food. During menstruation, vitamins and minerals are excreted from the body of the girl - so she should talk to the doctor or nutritionist and make a list of balanced diet and feed her.
However, at the beginning of the menstrual period, mothers talk openly and start counseling by observing the calendar for 1-2 years, i.e. keeping a note of the menstrual period, as well as a healthy lifestyle and cleanliness, he said.
She said, 'At this time, hormonal changes take place in the body of girls. Some people have regular menstrual periods but many have late or heavy bleeding, which can lead to anemia. If there is no other problem, you have to take care of it without worrying. However, if there is excessive bleeding, you have to seek the help of a doctor.
Professor Shiuli Chowdhury of BSMMU's Adolescent Friendly Health Care Center has suggested considering a few issues in the care of girls centered on menstruation. These are:
1. Nutritious foods, especially iron-rich foods
2. Ideas about hygiene
3. Adequate rest
4. Ensuring adequate protein and vitamins in the diet
5. If necessary, take the help of an adolescent-friendly health care center.
Shiuli Chowdhury said that if there is more pain, some tests may be needed, and if it is done in time, there is no risk of many complications later.
